Howdy !
you could set up a plane with a bend modifier on it so that it makes for a plane and a background, give that a whitish/grayish color and use skylight or standard 3 lights setup; or maybe use a simple plane and match the color of the background so that it creates a kind of a smooth gradient.
If you're using Brazil for exemple, you can use the CSG primitive plane (infinite) and simply match your background color.

The easiest way to do it is to apply a matte / shadow texture to your floor. It'll recieve and display shadow, but won't render so you can see the BG colour though it.

It's pretty simple....go to an used slot in the material editor, click on the 'standard' button to change the material type. Click on m'matte / shadow' in the window that pops up ( make sure the 'browse from' option is 'new' ).
Check the 'recieves shadows' box in the material and apply it to you plane. ( make sure the plane is large enough to take all the shadow ).
