I don't get it sigh....

I have to create a surface using two rails and a curve which should be the profile. Imagine two straight splines and half a circle spline as profile. 'Extruded' along both rails it should yield half a cylinder. My splines are describing the upper and lower profile of a logo which should be bulged up... I only get garbage regardless what I try..... spline patvh etc introduces mega distortions... sigh..... Any ideas greatly apreciated!
Cheers

Try using the inbuilt spline deformers, there is one that is specifically designed to create the effect you're after.

Thanks, but I can't get any surface generated in between two splines using a third one....
Grrrr

PS:Just tried out the spline rail deformer which could jam a tube through the path limited by my two splines but that does not generate any smooth results either.... I guess it's Rhino Time....

Cinema doesn't have a true 2-rail sweep, unfortunately. mdme_sadie is refering to the "spline rail" deformer, but if you can figure out how that thing works you're a better man than me.

Maybe download Moi 3D and export the object to Cinema?

The Spline Rail deformer actually works pretty good. But it's having it's limits caging the 'squeezed' geometry in. So... for my Logo I am not able to use C4D to construct it with my limited knowledge. I can see some painful ways but I rather Moi3d or Rhino that and bring back the .obj. The only problem with that is that the tesselation in both is usually not favoring any modifications in C4D or any other app later on. Sighhh....

Cinema doesn't have a true 2-rail sweep, unfortunately.

Just to clarify Cinema's sweep can accept two splines for it's sweep, but it can't do a two rail sweep (only single rail + center).

You can also produce this effect using the MoGraph SplineWrap, all you do is make sure to group the logo and then move it up slightly so it shifts the bounding box shape (what's used to determine the deformation area). Other methods of the bulge can be achieved using the bulge deformer (make sure to shift it down), the FFD, the spherize deformer and the wrap deformer, the plain effector (and other effectors) with a falloff set to deform points (there may even be some examples of creating this effect in the MoGraph library)... there's quite a few ways all in all to do this stuff.

Thanks Per! I'll check that out. And yes.... many ways... and so little time ;).

PS:Moi3d has no background image capability (yet...). But ye olde RHino just works well.
