View Full Version : Need Help with VRaY 1.5
Steve Zissou 10-05-2007, 04:33 PM Hi everyone,
This isn't a Lighting and Shader question per se but a application related one.
Im learning to use Vray 1.5 and most tutorials online are based on older versions. I just wanted to know how do you get the Gbuffer channels working in 1.5. The Vray manual says that the gbuffer is removed since vray now supports 3dsMax's render elements...
I have no idea what that means and how to enable the features provided by Vrays Gbuffer thru this 'render elements' !!! :scream:
please help.... Thanks in advance!

VRay render channels work exactly same way basic Max ones does. You can view them on Vray frame buffer

Hi
thanks for replying ... VRay render channels work exactly same way basic Max ones does. You can view them on Vray frame buffer
This seems to be the case for older version of vray (as i've seen from the training vids) but in ver 1.5 all i seem to get is the normal color version and the alpha channel i dont get other channels like 'only GI light' or 'vray light only' etc etc ... do u know why that is?
you have to turn them on from the 'render elements' tab of the rendering panel. make sure to also turn on the Vray VFB (virtual frame buffer).

If you dont get a response on cgtalk, post this question on the chaos forums. That it the
best place for vray related questions.

Hi Thanks a bunch Lo
I understand now.. This is the first time im rendering anything and im not familiar with the Max renderer itself... i just directly started off with Vray tutorials
probably not the smartest thing to move in quick to vray when i dont know the basics (rendering wise) but im in a hurry to get my portfolio completed ... been putting off rendering my work coz I didn't know how to (for starters) and my comp is too slow!
anyway slowly but steadily im getting there!
Thanks again

Thanks MikeBracken ...didn't realise that there was a chaos forum. I was mainly looking for a 'Vray' forum...i should have thought of that though :)
