View Full Version : [animation] Dinosaur skeleton
JoeCosman 04-08-2003, 03:55 AM I had a few hours on the weekend so I decided to test my knowlege I had learned from Richard Williams' book "animators survival kit"
suffice it to say, it worked like a charm. outside of work, this is the only new animation I've done in years.

The model was out of the Eggprops.com database, and I converted it to lightwave and rigged and animated in Messiah.
the feet dont linger as long as they should, and it would be cool to have secondary 'ratling' on the ribcage and scapula.
I'll have to get some backgrounds to play with animating this guy.
what ideas would go well? (despite it being another dinosaur ;)

Hey Joe,
It's looking good. Hmm... ideas, ideas.... maybe with a dog/s chasing him... Or maybe like that Nestea Icead Tea commercial where this skeleton drinks a the Iced Tea and the snow comes back on him.. to reveal he was a snow man... have you seen that one? Some lame ideas, but might spark some other ideas :)
Good job,
George

There's some "jerkiness" in the head that just bugs me. These things were massive predators and most of the predators I've seen (on the discovery channel ;) ) keep their heads almost completely still or "locked" onto a target. I think toning down your head bob a bit might go a long way. Good stuff though, I like the secondary motion of the tail and forearms.

I'll cast my vote with SpaceFork.
Animals, especially preditory ones, tend to keep thier heads free of motion during walking. The necks muscles act like shock absorbers and diffuses the motion of the body. Think how much easier it is to spot small or camoflauged objects when your head is near still.
I really like everything else i saw during my short look at it, but the head did seem too animated to me.
But you know, you have to be happy with it, you know what you are trying to achieve and what the story is, so i'll yield to your best judgement!
The overall animation is nice already, the onli think to comment is i felt that there are onli 1 hand moving....am i right or the angle problem?!
Anyway...its really a good job
