I'm new to compositing and am trying to get post DOF to work. I have my .rla seq imported with z-depth rendered, but all I can get AE to do is blur the whole image.

I create a layer from my sequence and apply 3D Channel/Depth of Field. I give a radius of 4, but no matter what the Focal Plane is set to I get the whole image blurred. I'm using the info box to tell me the depth that each pixel is at. It's treating the image as if it's all one depth, but I'm able to get the Depth Matte effect to work fine on the same image.

Which version of AE?

It's the new CS3 trial. I'm trying to figure out if I need AE or if PS Extended will be all I need. I need to be able to do DOF on image sequences and layer with alphas, thats all.

Am I missing a step? I've tried a couple scenes, I can't get it to work.

Mmh, I don't think you're missing anything. I don't use that stuff that much (due to it being limited to 8bpc), but you might indeed be faced with a bug. If you don't mind sending a file from the sequence to me, I can try and verify (and if it doesn't work forward it to the proper authorities). My address is mylenium<->at<->mylenium.de.

Thanks for the offer. I just tried it using luminance depth and lens blur and am very pleased.
