Its not BIG news in an industry sense, but I figure it is somewhat noteworthy. (that and it might be encouraging for all those artists out there making their own short films.)

My 3d animated short film "Lunch", which I completed in 2001, has been licensed for inclusion on the next Veggietales video. So in May around 500,000 families will experience the thrill of watching my short film. Well, I think it's thrilling anyway. :)

Like I said, its not super big news on an industry wide scope, but I think it's pretty cool.

So take heart if you're making an animated short. Someday there may be a market for it. Not a huge market, but a market all the same.

Details can be found at my website for those inclined to be bothered by such small dealings. :)

Congrats Keith! I love Lunch, it'll be nice to get in on dvd instead of watching the tiny version of it that I have saved.

Thanks! And thanks to all the rest of you who have responded. As for "Lunch" on DVD, you can buy the Veggietales DVD in May, which will have it. Or if you're not a fan of VT (I realize not everybody is. I don't consider myself a fan of it, although I can appreciate the effort) you can wait 'til a little later this year. The goal then is to put all my shorts (including the new one I'm currently animating) onto DVD and have folks be able to buy it via PayPal from my site. Again, sometime later this year, after the new short is finished.
I say if you can wait, then wait til I have them all together on one disc in a few months.

Thanks again everybody! :)

Brilliant work. Love the style and the nice crispy pace of the animation.

So much to learn from almost every frame!

Oh and our thanks should go to Keith for recently releasing his Maya2Max Renderkit, which should help to promote even more unique animation and rendering styles

hey congratulations. It's nice to hear the triumphs of the independent animators. It's inspiring.

There may be a good possibility of a PAL version of the DVD when it's done. We'll see. But I'll need to figure that out later. I gotta finish this next one first! ;)
Thanks again!

Sure, just head to my website (link is in my sig), follow the link to "Films" and click on the icon for Lunch. That will take you to the pocketmovies.net page for the short.
Or I suppose you can just go right to pocketmovies.net and search for it there. Whichever you prefer. :)
The movie is in MPEG1 format, which should play on just about anything.
Enjoy!

thats excellent is that mate. Well done. I've just completed a short about a fly, who tries to escape being hit by the angry human. Its about 2 and a half minutes long. Unfortunately I can't show it you because I have nowhere to host it. I'll try and dig out some screenshots.

Does this mean that "Breakfast" and "Dinner" are not far off?

I wish all studios would embrace the short film format. There are a ton of awesome short film ideas at the studios, and for the most part, they are not encouraged (and in some cases not allowed) to develop them.

Short films at large studios allow people to try new things and stay fresh.

Kudos to Phil Vischer and whoever else helped make this happen. A studio like Big Idea should kick out one or two shorts a year.

Congrats Kieth. Did this come out of the blue? Or was it in the works for a while?
