Hi,
I´m fighting with the following situation:

a ship swaying on the sea (already animated with add-the-sea).
Now I need to set the lifeboat that is hanging on two ropes from a rig in realistic dynamic motion. Swaying against the rolling of the ship as this would be in real life.

As the ropes keep stretched they can be seen as sticks, no curling etc required.
Can anybody give me some help how to set that dynamic hierarchy up?

Maybe as a little example scene with primitives?

I am stuck with that, don´t find the right approach.
Thanks for any help
Holger

Check the attached scene. It uses Rigid Body Springs to attache the lifeboat to the moving ship.

Here's another way, using Hair and a hair constraint tag... not exactly what you asked for but fun to set up anyhow :)
edit: well, not very applicable to what you're doing I suppose, never mind
