I'm having trouble with Final Gather. I'm using 3ds max 9 (Mental Ray 3.5) and rendering without GI.
When I render it low-res (800 x 618), it looks fine. However, when I render the exact same scene in hi-res (3300 x 2550) the walls are incredibly blotchy.
For the low-res I used the Final Gather preset 'draft'. For the high-res I used 'draft' but also 'medium'. On medium the blotches are a bit smaller but still noticable.
Has anyone run into this problem or knows what the solution would be? Here are the setting details for Final Gather on the medium preset:
Initial FG Point Density: 0.8
Rays per FG Point: 250
Interpolate Over Mum. FG points: 30
Diffuse Bounces: 2
Weight: 1.0
Thanks!
