How do i use the texture tile option (on or off) in the mat tag successfully? I have an elongated cube that originally came from archicad and i want to stick a texture on it but i don't want it to tile i just want one instance of the texture in the middle of the cube. However if i uncheck the tile option the texture vanishes (its probably 100m away) so what is the best way to keep it in the middle of the cube? i have tried cubic and the standard uvw mapping. I can get it to work with a c4d standard cube fine and i can always replace the archicad cube with it but it would be nice to know what determines the uv centre.

You already did the right thing by turning off the tile option in the Texture tag. When it disappears, that only means the UV data is bad. What you can do is either edit the "Offset" settings until you see it where you want it, or in the OM you go into the "Texture" Menu and choose "Fit to region". Then you can interactively specify where the texture should appear on your image based on flat projection.
