View Full Version : what is the difference between.......
addicted2_3D 04-08-2003, 12:39 AM what is the difference between the edge extrude plugin, bevel plugin found the the Maxon Ciunema4d v7 and the super edge extrude plugin? R these the same things? And is there any funcitonality overlap from V8. Me very confused, but need to know whether I should still should get the super edge extrude plugin as a result?
Also since I am on this type of tangental thinking is the supernurb plug-in any better than the hypernurb weighting in v8 (or indeed and functionality difference)? I thought that supernurb had more weighting options.
Cheers

Difference between edge extrude plugin and R8 edge extrude: edge extrude plugin allows illegal mesh, R8 edge extrude doesn't. (i don't use the plugin anymore now with R8 edge extrude)
Difference between SuperNurbs and Weighted HyperNURBS: the new Weighted HyperNURBS are far superior: you can apply a weight to points, edges and vertexes with numeric values or in an interactive way (press . and drag the mouse after selecting points/edges/faces.

SUPER edge extrude, I'm not sure I've heard of that one. In 8.1 you will want to hold on to arndt's edge extrude and edge bevel. WHY?
Well both edge bevel and edge extrude have been added, and edge extrude in R8.1 doe offer the main ability that arnd'ts did, though you cannot use it with an illegal mesh, why anyone would want to I don't know, but a lot of people complain about it. 8.1's also allows for some other cool abilities which I will show in my modeling cd, but arndt's allows for some nice things like working with splines co you can extrude a spline and such, had to give you a real idea of what this enables you to do, best to loot at his site and manual.
The reason to hold on to edge bevel is a simple one, Arndt's edge bevel works on single points, meaning you can bevel points. The tool on edges is just like 8.1's except that you select the two points instead of the edge. But for beveling points this is the only puging that does it. A great partner for Samir's Dpvertexnorm which allows you to move a point on its normal, the two together allow you to extrude a point :)
As for super nurbs the most distinguishable difference is the visual feedback of supernurbs since it uses vertex maps. However it can only weight points since there was no control of edges. R8.1 also controls edges, and is far more interactive getting realtime feedback and interactive weighting rather than painting and then previewing the results.
Hope that answers things

It cetainly helps clear things up.. Just so that I get this right. The superedge tool is still useful since it will allow the funky spline spline extrusion stuff? And supernurb is redundant since v.8.1 has more functionality anyways.
thanks

I don't know of a super edge tool, but there is Edge Exctrude Pro.
Other wise yep you summed it up just fine

thanks again Ur the man! As u can see I'm exploring the plug-in land and alot of these plugs just say 6+ like with the weld tool which is posted on the c4d website unlike others. And yeah I mean the edget extrude pro. My bad and I appreciate both the information and the patience with my silliness.
