View Full Version : don't mind me, just a first time head
MrMunkily 04-07-2003, 11:59 PM Never done anything organic before, but I needed to start somewhere. This is my first attempt.
C&C welcome (needed :> ) especially about the lower lip, and the cheeks... and the nose... and the whole damned thing...

Hey Mr. Munkily,
You just need some more practice. I'd suggest doing some good head tutorials primarily to see at least one good way to set up the structure of the mesh. The reason I say this is because you have a lot of loops and polys that really are not contributing anything to the structure of the head, but are only driving the poly count up.
Hang in there and keep going!

well, the thing I'm most concerne about right now is the lip - is it the right size, and the lower lip just looks wrong to me... can anyone put their finger on it?
I was working origianlly from Wiro's tutorial, but I lost track - I made some mistakes that resulted in really bad topology. I probably could have repaired them correctly - but I didn't know how. I made a lot of polar quads, and tried my hardest to avoid tri's once I had gone off the beaten path. Proportions were not reall a problem - but I had the eyes positioned dead wrong until a few minutes ago...

again and again.
closed eyes so they don't look bug-eyed,
fixed chin ugliness
shortened head slightly and removed too-large brain.
any other tips for improving the head, since I'd like to move on to the bigger body.

Did your server go down?
I see absolutely no images.

the head has sausage lips. I would try pulling the center of the lip out, so it has a more radius of the corner to center. Also, the top lip could probably use some of the same. The corners of the lips need to tuck into the face creating a dimply there/ Also, the side view shows the lack of a chin. pull put the chin or else push in the area between bottom lip and chin. Either way, it'll create more form in those areas.
Pretty good for a fist head!

hey man, i don't know if U're making a male or a female...but i will suppose it's a male. I have attached an image with some tips. I'm not any expert at all, but the basis is always the same.
Waiting for improvements.

PD: mouse fast drawing is always difficult ;)
Next time use references, U put a plane at the very back of the view with a texture of a face. The 2 views that must be "referenced" are front and some side (left/right), u must be sure they're exactly the same one at the same circumstance, overall for the first face, if not...more or less...if you don't wanna make him/her as it's in reality, its only a reference for the basis ;)
