Title: Ana zazi
Name: Ken Matheson
Country: United States
Software: Painter, Photoshop
Anazazi... is a take off from the the ancient, native american word anasazi , which roughly translated means; those who came before, or the early ones. This piece was inspired by visiting an ancient Indian reservation and hearing stories which question or existence as humans and how we came to be from those who came before us.
I wanted to get sort of a rock carved, bas relief, yet modern day textured effect with this piece.
Photoshop into painter for some background and shading, out to photoshop for some effects, finishing touches, and tonal changes.

I like this! You really seem to crank out the images in this style, yet they seems fairly complicated and time consuming. How long does a typical image take to paint?

Thank you,
This one I did last year. I'm only now posting it. It's hard to gauge how much time it takes because I typically work on 4 images at once so if I get caught up on one, I move to the next. I work as fast as I can trying to capture the images in my head, it's like a stream of constant pictures that I have to capture wile it lasts. In doing so the consequence is working very fast.
Sometimes I can crank out 5 or 6 images in a day, sometimes it takes me a couple weeks to finish 4. It all depends on how long the current runs while I capture what I see, if it stops, I move on to a new idea till it turns on again.
I have thousands and many more that I'm working on currently, I don't remember how long Anazazi took but I wouldn't say longer than a couple days. The pieces like Osirus, Puja, and La Dolce Vita take the longest.
I also need to pay the rent with a lot of freelance commercial work that takes away from my own art time so sometimes a few pieces will be left hanging for a month or so.
Thank you or your interest.

Ken, you seem to have very original style.
I can see the influence of very thoroughly studied art history in your works.
Beautiful!

I continue to find your work very interesting and inspiring. Especially as you pump these out one after the other outside of your normal job, and not the easiest of jobs too. Its something I have not found the will to do myself. Keep making great art.
