I wonder if Sony wil transition to a house that only does cgi shorts
ala Pixar?

I doubt it. They have been working towards being able to do there own features in house and did the chubbs chubbs primarily as a test to see what there strengths and weakensses were with regards to the pipeline they have set up. It was always the intention to release the Chubbs Chubbs as a short with a feature.
Or at least that was the information put out in an interview. I am sure they are looking at being as diverse as Pixar and doing shorts, features, commercial work and even effects work on other films.
