How do you render 16 bit per channel images in mental ray?

I don't see an option for 16 bit tiffs etc like there used to be in previous version of Maya.

-Set Framebuffer to 16bit
-Select 16bit capable file format
-batch render or switch on 'Preview convert tiles' and switch off 'preview tonemap tiles'

Are iff, tiff and tga good to go with 16bit and is RGBA 4x16 short the correct format?

thanks!

Yes, RGBA or RGB Short is correct (half is some kind of HDR format I think)

I always use openEXR, because Photoshop can't open iff, and when rendering from the viewport the tiff files are sometimes corrupted - there seems to be some bug, but I think that's actually on the Photoshop side - not sure. You might be fine with other applications.

I have no experience with tga, but they are supposedly 16bit capable...

Just give it a try.

Yes try tga. exr are built for the purpose of using 32 bit images. I think tiffs should work its odd you have problems.
