seenote2000 04-07-2003, 06:53 PM I am new to maya and i dont know exactly how to do this yet. I know in 3dsmaX i would just use something like textporter to unwrap my models for me. Is ther something like this in maya?

The way you'd want to approach this is to do a cylindrical mapping (Edit polygon/texture/cylindrical mapping), then open up the texture editor and tweak the results. A good tool is to use "relax UV's" with the option "pin unselected" checked. You can also do separate planar mappings too and then stich them into your UV map. On A/Ws site there is a good texture to use to check stretching and similar called "util-mark6.tif". A must have.
And when all is done, remember to delete history!;)

eather that, or the way I did my last model was i planar projected 3 sides of the face 2 sides and front, then stiched them together...i think this is better then spherical or cylindrical mapping..or atleast artist preference :)

You dont need to take a screenshot - The uv editor has a "uv snapshot" option in one of the menus, where you can specify filetype, size etc.
