CGTalk - VGA to COMPONENT

Hi,
I would like to connect a laptop to my HDTV via VGA to COMPONENT.
I found a cable that should do the job.
Is it going to work?
What about the quality?
Why some company are suggesting to use a box signal converter and not a simple cable.

currently I'm using a VGA to VGA cable. Unfortunately my TV accept only 4:3 VGA signal like: 640x480 1024x768 1280x1024 etc. So I can't use the full 16:9 screen, with the current connection I have got black bands along the sides. I'm hoping to solve the problem with VGA to COMPONENT connection.

Does your video card have alternate videou outputs?

Many modern cards can put out component output straight from the card..

I have got only VGA and S-video (S-video is really bad) my idea is to output hd resolution from my laptop to the TV. I would like to use 1280*720p 60hrz)

Output HDTV quality through component? Not sure if that's gonna work actually. Component might be better than S-video, but I don't think it's gonna give the results you might be looking for.
