Hi Guys,

I am new to messiah, and need some help trying to create a clip.

I have created a simple character that I rigged with help from Joe Cosman's CDs. I then did a simple animation of the character waving his hand. I want to record a clip of the hand wave (range 20-60) but it does not want to record the arm rotations. I have tried various combinations of the Source, Channel, and Motion settings in the Record block, but they all seem to give the same results.

I have attached a copy of the scene and object file, with hopes that somebody could try to make a clip in range 20-60 and figure out what I have done wrong. I dont know if there is something wrong in the way I setup the rig, or if I am just not creating the clip correctly.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi Tom,
I had a quick look at your scene and I made a clip using the FullBody keys group, and the animation is being recorded into it.
Its being overriden by something, and I think its your arm expressions.
The problem seems to lie in your IK/FK setup, I think, and I suspect the Fade IK expression has something to do with it.
I would try playing with this and see if it helps any. Switch off all your expressions and gradually turn them on one by one until you can isolate the problem.
Hope this helps
Mike

Hi Mike,

Thanks for looking. You were right about the IK expressions. If I disable all the arm IK releated expressions the clip plays correctly.

Does this mean it is not possible to create clips from animations that use IK/FK fades? Or perhaps I just have not set up the IK correctly? Hmmm, I will have to do some more experimenting.

Thanks again for your help.
Tom

It's definitely possible, you will just have to fiddle about with your expressions - also check their order in the expressions list. I think they are evaluated form the top first.
The other thing that just occured to me is that you can set your clips to be calculated after IK and after Motion.
You could try changing those options to see if it makes any difference, but it's almost definitely your expressions.
