View Full Version : What is the problem with this render?

Could someone please enlighten me as to what the problem is here? Why is the ground all...squiggly? It isn't like that when I use an HDRI image as an environment map. But when I use Vray sky it does this squiggly thing. How can I fix this? Please advise.
Thanks in advance!!
Cheers!

Well what all is applied to the ground plane? Maybe someone has experienced this before and knows exactly, but me, having never seen this, needs to know more about your scene and what options and settings you are using, thanks.

Nothing it applied to the ground plane. Its just a geometry with a texture on it. If I render it with an HDRI environment it looks fine. But as soon as I shine a vray light on it it goes all squiggly.

You should place 2 renders we could compare.
But this wooden thing looks good.

The problem has been solved. It was the bump mapping. I didn't even realize I had one. When I turned it off, everything was fine.
Cheers!
It was the bump mapping.
That's why he asked what your settings were.
It goes without saying that there's a texture on it.
That's a very vague response to the question.
This serves to remind us less experienced artists that when asked questions like this it's important to be specific and include details in our responses.
With the complexity and possible problems that exist by nature in this field, giving vague one sentence explanations usually isn't enough info to allow others to identify the problem so the solution doesn't present itself to the rest of us.
I just wanted to throw this out there because this happens alot around here.
People often experience problems, then give a vague explanation of it, then return to the thread and just say that the problem has been resolved without elaborating on it.
As if the forum exists only to help YOU solve your problem.
It's meant to be a give AND take scenario.
Yeah, YOUR problem is resolved, but nobody else benefits from the solution.
And from a less experienced perspective, it's good to be able to know all the circumstances that create the problem in case one of us encounters the same issue.
Isn't this why we're here in the first place?
This isn't the usual result of bump mapping, and as it stands we still don't fully understand why this occured.
The problem itself, and the resulting solution haven't been explained in enough detail for anyone to gain any insight into how to prevent or solve the problem.
Sorry for the rant and I'm not directing these comments toward anyone specifically, but I get annoyed whenever things like this happen because I'm left wondering what actually caused the problem and how it was ultimately solved.
