View Full Version : Snowfall on Tree?
Phontsolo 10-01-2007, 09:33 PM What would be the best way to add snowfall to a christmas tree? I searched for dirtyNuts and all the links don't seem to be working any longer. If anyone knows of a good christmas tree model with lights and decorations that would aslo be great. Thanks a lot!

DirtyNuts has been replaced by Ambient Occlusion (AO). So if you follow a tutorial, simply use the AO shader instead.

An overlaying material with animated alpha channel perhaps.

If you're not following a tutorial then i'd recommend using the falloff shader instead. You can combine it with ambient occlusion if you want to help get the look that snow is only on the parts where it could get to. But falloff is the best and simplest method for creating the look of a light dusting of snow, dust, etc.

Maybe somebody here remembers this... a couple years ago someone put to gether a Vespa (motor scooter, light blue) with snow on it using the method described by Per-Anders. I recall the image looking VERY good. I may have seen it over at Renderosity. Sorry I couldnt be more specific.
Cheers,
D

Just follow the link I posted. It's about using the falloff shader for snow, and yes there is even a Vespa! :)
Here it's again:
