View Full Version : Exporting characters to 3ds Max?

hi guys...

I'm not sure whether to put this in 3dsmax or XSI forum, but we need
to import some animated characters done (by other studios) in XSI
into 3ds max.
We will be rendering this characters along with other properties
done in 3dsmax.

Is there anyway to import things like point cache or even skinned/
animated characters directly into 3dsmax? We wouldn't expect to be
editing the animation, but it'd be great if that's possible.

Does anybody know how exporting skinned characters from
xsi into 3dsmax works? Does XSI supports Max pointcache or FBX format?
Anyone has any experience with this?

ps: sorry for the double post. I put this q in max forum also

Thanks in advance,
regards,

I am new to XSI myself, and I haven't actually tried this yet, but I think that Crosswalk sounds like what you need. There is a video that shows it in action here -> http://softimage.com/products/xsi/videos.aspx?video_id=23

Have fun getting a fully rigged/skinned/animated character over.

I recommend point caching with point oven. It's built into XSI. File > Export > Point Oven

Also, make sure you have the latest crosswalk installed. http://www.softimage.com/downloads/Crosswalk20/default.aspx

wow. Thank you Firefox, that's very nice of you making and sharing your tutorial.
Unfortunately your tutorial is about exporting from max to xsi. What we are looking is just the opposite, animated characters from xsi to max.

Best regards to you,
Thank you

Yes it is, just go for Kai Wolter tools at http://www.kai-wolter.com/resources/xsi/kp_pc_xsi
