View Full Version : [Max 9] Combining UVs

Hi

i´ve finished a low-poly model, that should be used for real-time environments. I´ve modeled it in seperate parts...the arms as one as well as the head, the torso, the legs and the boots.

I´ve unwrapped all parts and got good UVs for all of them. But as this thing is supposed to be exported into a game-engine, i need it as one object with one UV.
So how do i combine these objects and combine the uvs as well? Don´t want to unwrap the whole thing again.

Is that possible or do i have to go back to the editable poly modifier, attach everything and then unwrap again?

And by the way...is there a GOOD and reliable tutorial about the pelt-mapping in max 9?
I´ve tried it...but the results weren´t really conviencing...so i´ve unwrapped via the classical techniques....

And could you recommend some tutorials about normal-map-generation starting with a low poly mesh? Wether ZB or MudBox...i would try both of them as i am totally new to all of that.
I want to train myself in Game Art so i´m going through the whole process.
The modelling itself worked out great. I´ve started on the basis of the low-poly-modeling tut, that comes with max, but left their way quite often, as i found the techniques, that i learned on other projects more suiteable in some cases.

The UV-Stuff is all self tought...and i was supprised how easy it was...only takes some time to get used to the tools http://forums.3dtotal.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

So it would be great if you could assist me on the next steps.

I want to combine the model to one object. Take it to make a high-res-mesh as base for the normal mapping process and then start drawing a texture in photoshop.
Any input on all of that is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance and excuse my english as it isn´t my native language and i´m sometimes missing a few words http://forums.3dtotal.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Your English is great.

For the multi-part UVs, all you have to do is Attach the parts to one of the other parts, and the UVs will automatically combine together. You may need to move them around afterwards to avoid overlapping.

For tutorials, I'd suggest digging around in the Polycount forums, lots of helpful industry professionals and hobbyists there. Also helps to post your work for feedback.
