View Full Version : XSI displacement
CharlesVarenne 09-30-2007, 11:29 AM Hi, I would like to know the work around to set up a displacement from zbrush.
Please notice that I AM NOT IMPORTING an obj. I want to use my model which is already in XSI.
My problem is that when you import your obj you can set up some displacement value and map in the import option. And then XSI creates automaticaly some nodes to render the displacement.
BUT where do I find this node?????? if I want to create them manually.
Oh and does someone know where i can find ZTiff, the link is dead on XSI base
Thanks a lot

donno about ztiff, but you can plug a plain vanilla image node into the Material nodes displacement channel. And when you stick a "change_range" node between those two you'll be able to adjust the displacement textures values. ( nodes > math > change range )
I took ztiff down because I thought XSI improved its texture import capabilities a while ago. Are you using an old version of XSI?

No I am using version 6 but ztiff is very similar to the way you manage it in Maya... and i am more used to this.
would you mind sending to me? at this adress? charlesvarenne(at)hotmail.com
thanks a lot.
Also you maybe can have the solution to my problem.
I plug my map to the displacement set up the subidvision approximationtion but cant get nice result. I dont know if I need to plug a node, or where I can actually set up the value of my displacement (thats why I was lookign for ztiff)...
Thanks a lot

Wesh gros,
So you prefer using Ztiff because the dispacement settings come with the obj\Ztiff import, just like in maya?
i guess your shader is correctly pluged, but you can add a change range node to refine your map
are you using the geometry approximation >> displacement menu or not? this where you set this in XSI.
if you render with default settings it might be rude.
