View Full Version : window blindes are weird.
specialk12 09-30-2007, 01:15 AM i need help in making my blinds look better after I render. For the material I used architectural paint gloss. I don't know why it looks messed up.
What could it be. Could it be the lighting or texture that is affecting my window blinds.
I am using 3ds max 9.
any help???

It's hard to tell with your jpeg compression but do you even have anti-aliasing turned on? Does it do this when you get really close to it and render? If so, try turning your samples up.
Good luck.

where do I go to turn on anti-aliasing??
What should my samples be also??
I have them now at Min=1/4 Max=4

when I render close up to the window blinds, I don't get that weird image of my blinds. It's only when I render from far that I get the image you see attached to this thread.
why could that be??

Its quite hard to tell because of the resolution/quality of your image. Originally I was going to suggest that it might be a moire pattern
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moir%C3%A9_pattern)
but looking at the reflection of the blinds in the table which appear ok, maybe it's not.
Double the size of your render resolution, does the problem still appear?
It doesnt sound like you are using a texture for the blinds so if it is moire then it may just be the spacing you have between your blind geometry which is causing the problem. Upping the render quality should help a lot but depending on how fine your geometry is you may have to go back in and tweak it slightly.
Up your sampling and change your pixel filtering to a higher quality like mitchell or lanczos. You could also try lowering the contrast threshold as well. All depends on what sort of rendertimes you are happy with really.
