View Full Version : my res is too small for softy?!?
Hi there, I've just got the xsi experience cd and I have been trying to learn some at home but my screen will only do the required res
when it is set to 60hz. Is there any way to hack it to work at a lower res or should I just try to put up with my eyeballs hurting?

Unfortunately you cannot make and save your own layouts in EXP for other rez etc..
You can install an addon for lower rez layouts by going file>addon>install
Or dragndrop the file or one of these links onto a 3d view in XSI:
g1024x768 v1.0 (http://www.grahamdclark.com/Studentresources/links/generallinks/g1024x768.xsiaddon)
Or
SmallWideDualorToolbarLayouts (http://www.grahamdclark.com/Studentresources/links/generallinks/SmallWideDualorToolbarLayouts.xsiaddon)
Or
XSI default 1280x1024 layouts (http://www.grahamdclark.com/Studentresources/links/generallinks/XSIdefault1280x1024s.xsiaddon) for EXP users that have lost them
But warning many addons cause EXP to loose its default layouts, so when you start XSI there is no layout, just a grey blank work area, and restore default layout does not work,
So you can install the above layouts again at each startup which is a bit of a drag, or unzip one of the following layouts:
XSI .dslayouts files (http://www.grahamdclark.com/Studentresources/links/generallinks/gdclarklayouts.zip)
Or
g1024x768forEXP v1.0 (http://www.grahamdclark.com/Studentresources/links/generallinks/gdclarklayouts.zip)
then after unzipping these these, dragndrop the folders into:
C: \Softimage\ XSI-EXP_3.0\ Data \Preferences\DefaultLayouts
then start XSI, ignore the rez warnings,
and now in XSI under layout menu at top the new layouts will be listed to use at each start, pick one like gL1024x7683DBG+RAnyRez

Thanks man, you may have just saved my eyeballs! and for that I am eternally grateful.
By the way the XSI EXP version rocks!, you can hardly notice the watermarks at all. :buttrock:
Glad it helped,
Most people I give a copy of EXP to, to test and play with are trying it out on a home box, or on the road on a laptop, and often need a smaller rez.
