View Full Version : Project #3...starship
Mentat7 04-07-2003, 06:01 AM Well I have completed project 3 in C4D. Mechanical objects definitely have there own set of obstacles to overcome compared to organic models. Had fun on this one. I think I am ready to graduate from 2nd to 3rd grade C4D now........ :D

ok that looks good, but now you gotta add some realism to the moon/planets surface... and i mean lighting here, it's far away, there's less contrast on distant objects, try to get a bit of shadow on the planet at some point to give the feeling of distance, up the texture contrast in the illumination tab for it's material, and make the lighting a bit more dramatic, remember in space you don't get much ambient light, though your ships might get some from the planet below, nothing from above though, just light directly from teh nearest star and maybe the engines of the other ships if theyr'e particually bright.
great job, just needs the lighting to be sorted and you're there :)

Thanks MDS but actually this isn't a planet...it's the Earth's moon and the shadow was actually cut off in the pic on the right side...you can't see it. I think though I made the texture too large which makes it look closer than it should be. The light on the ships is coming from the same source which puts the sun behind the viewer. Anyway I wasn't really going for realism or anything close to it. I have my own style of illustration and hopefully that will be more evident in my 3d stuff as I get more comfortable with the software. Thanks!
