View Full Version : Linking verts to objects

Hey people,

I currently have a spline ik spine set up on my character, and I want to set up controllers (poly objects) to control the verts of the spline.

Does anyone know how to set up an object to control verts, not objects? I tried using a cluster for each vert but that had some multiplication problems when the root was moved.

Clusters are the way to go. What you're seeing is double transforms when you move the root. That's probably because you've parented the clusters under the root. The trick is to leave the clusters outside of the heiarchy from the root. They can stay where they were created in worldspace. Just have the controllers move with the root. That way things should play nice. There may be something else, but it's been a few months since I last rigged something, but I think that's all you'll need. I know I have used clusters to do the very thing you describe many times in the past and it's worked whenever I've left the clusters outside the heirarchy.

I can not work out how to keep the clusters out of the heiarchy? if you have the time could you please explain how to do this part? :)
