View Full Version : paint fx on a poly object?
Hi there,
Just wondering if anyone knows how to use paint FX on the surface of a polygon object.
I made the object live but it still is created on the ground plane of the scene not on the objects surface!?!?....
thanks -

Only NURBS objects are paintable with PaintFX. The way around it is to create a NURBS surface that corresponds with the polys surface, then paint on that. Rig the NURBS surface to deform the same way as the poly surface and then turn off the primary visibility of the NURBS surface so that it won't render.
hope that helps.

Thanks kieth,
but I made a nurbs object and it wasn't paintable even when it was turned to live? Is there some other way to make it paintable in paintFX?
you have to `make paintable` the nurbs surface, to do paint fx on it.
as keith said, try to create a nurbssurface, that deforms the same way like your originally poly mesh.
Or, you can also use pint fx on nurbs curves. So you could create a curve and wirte a small expression to pin every nurbs CV to the corresponding poly Cv.This way the curve will deform like the polymesh ...

Are you using the Make Live button in the top row of buttons or are you using the Make Paintable command in the Paint Effects menu?
The Make Paintable works, not so sure about the Make Live.
HADES: Cool tip on the curve, btw. I'll have to give that a whack.
