View Full Version : New Technology Makes Models From Videos
davius 09-28-2007, 04:56 AM Just stumbled over this web page where they demonstrate a software capable of modeling objects from videos. The name of this amazing program is VideoTrace (http://www.acvt.com.au/research/videotrace/) and currently is on development.
These things just keep me wondering where are we gonna be within 5-10 years...

Yeah, the concept may not be "new", but the technology certainly is.
Looks pretty impressive and all, but when you look at how it works, it basically is just a photo-modeller - tech that has been around. it does look pretty interesting though - and slick - in the easy way you can manipulate your position in the video, which automatically tracks the point locations.

well it seems that its a hybrid between camera tracking and image modelling. pretty cool idea though.

Indeeed very interesting but not very new as far as resarch area. I haven't seen a commercial product yet though.
I got my hopes up after this course at siggraph 2003
SIGGRAPH 2003 course 15 3D Models from Photos and Videos presented by Marc Pollefeys
where they demonstrated a fully automatic version (whith some shortcuts taken) and not photo-modeller from video.
Iv'e seen some others showing it from a german university at cebit 2005 as well but again only at research level.
