I'm a long time maya user, and i've been modelling in max lately to learn it.

in maya, I can turn wireframe on and see through my mesh to the image planes.

in max, if i turn shading off, the image plane objects turn see-through also. i've resorted to turning the opacity down and back up through the material editor for the same effect, but it's cumbersome. is there an easier way to set this up?

you can always turn on wireframe mode through the material editor..should be one of the options avalible at the top of the parameters for the material selected

What I usually do is ANIMATE the opacity change of the material on the objects I want to see through. Then I can just scrub the time slider to switch between see-through view and solid view, and hit F4 to turn on the 'show edges' thing to see my wire when the objects are totally transparent.

Check out See Through. You can either get to it through properties of the selected object or you can hit ALT+X. I think that is the default hotkey for it..

Hope this helps.

thanks guys, your ideas helped. i like turning wireframe on in the mat editor a lot better than changing the opacity. i still wish i could toggle that with a hotkey instead of a key and two clicks, but i guess i'll live with it.

edit: actually alt-x works really well too, except for the side view when looking through the instanced mirror...have to switch both.
