View Full Version : stretchy arm rig
jmarcus0117 09-27-2007, 04:51 PM Hello everyone, I am still working on my crazy caterpillar rig and I am haivng an issue. The director wants the arms to stretch outward. I used a script called zooCST which is really cool but I also need a forarm twist and that is the complicaiton. does anyone know of another way of rigging an arm that has all of these features together...
IK/FK blend
Forarm twist
stretchy arms
I was told that I can resize the joints to get the stretchy arms but I did not get the rest of what needs to be done. Plaese help me with this issue.

If you look at blender's mancandy rig, it has all those features. Part of the technique is skinning/weightpainting a number of extra stretchy bones which overlay the normal arm bones. They stretch to helper objects/bones in the shoulder, elbow and wrist. for the twisting, maybe you could use a segmented bone? that's what my rig uses, but then again, it doesn't stretch...

thank you for the reply, I am using Maya 8.5 and I do not have Blender. for the forarm twist I did use and extra joint inbetween the elbow and wrist joint bit I can not get it to apply to the stretchy arm rig that I have.
