View Full Version : How does this look?
knight42 04-06-2003, 07:31 PM Hi all
I knocked this up today, just trying to get a good metallic look. I thought it looks quite realistic.

yeah thats a toughie....over so slightly dull on metallic surface...but not got something like it in front of me..makes it harder with the specular to get right cos as far as i can remember its that brushed metalic look (ooh and thats being damn nit picky if i say so myself). actually on second thoughts...keep it...i think you nailed it...:buttrock:
What i am totally impressed with though...is the fact you included the plastic dimple thingy on the cap top...a nice convincing detail....top marks bud...:buttrock:
Yeah, nice...!
I just can't get the hang of Anisotropic materials (is it?), like Flingster said, real nitpicking to get just the look you want. I once made a LP record with it but it took much more time than I expected ...
This looks fab, but how did you get all the text on it? Seperate images or did you use Bodypaint?
I'm asking because I want to use Bodypaint (for a change) to get text on my object, since I figured it's less cumbersome than making all these images seperatly. But I cannot seem to find an option for text input anywhere.
Anyhoo, great work on the material...!

Thanks guys! The real surface is brushed slightly horizontally, which I've lost a bit on these renders. I can't get on with SLA Specular settings so I've got a transparent copy of the bottle doing the big specular highlights and a tiny displacement to make it a bit bigger than the metal. ISTR getting that idea from mdme_sadie.
The texture is just a 1600x3000 photoshop PSD for color and alpha mask, I don't earn enough to have BodyPaint. :( I think it's flat-mapped so it's a bit distorted, and some of the text has disappeared.
Edit: The surface is SLA Danel, BTW.
