View Full Version : Reduced AA quality behind glass
alawrence 09-25-2007, 01:20 PM My renders are suffering from reduced AA quality behind glass.
How do I correct this?
You can see the problem on the attached image.

have you selected "Best"?
if the render take long time, make best with small values, then make a compositing tag to your glass object, and active "force anti aliasing" and make other values so like this only you glass object will be affected with those special values.

Thanks
The problem was in a few compositing tags which for some reason had antialiasing turned off. The render settings were set to use objects properties so although antialiasing for the scene was on best, glass was rendered without AA.
I will need to keep an eye out for this from now on.

if antialiasing is active and you still have this problem you should go up in the max level, this will increase your render times.
About the compositing tag, i'm not sure if forcing antialiasing works that way, maybe someone could clarify this thing for me. I believe it won't render in lower resolution that the antialiasing in the render settings...??

what i understand from cinema 4d help is that cinema 4d uses the best setting, it compares those made in general preferences and those made on the tag, best results will then be choosed...

ok, i guess i'll have to make a few test to fully understand how it works. Thanks for clarifying.

the tag can only force the AA value higher not lower and it can only be used in best AA mode.
so if you set best 2x2 4x4 in the render settings and 1x1 4x4 in the tag then the render will be all 2x2 4x4.
however if you set 1x1 2x2 in the render settings and 2x2 4x4 in the tag then the render will be 1x1 2x2 but the tagged objects will be rendered at the higher quality of 2x2 4x4.
this is all in the manual.
