Title: Darth Sidious
Name: David Hensley
Country: USA
Software: Modo, Photoshop, ZBrush

This is an update to a model a started awhile ago, painted new diffuse, bump, sss, and specular map for this, mainly to finish it and to test some new Modo 301 functionality.

Love this pic!

Great use of depth of field! Did you use a z-depth map? I love the anatomy of the face, I think you get a real sense of weight in the sagging wrinkles. Also that single visible eye conveys a lot of character.

My only crit would be I'd like to see more texture in the cowl, I always got the impression his cloak was made from a heavier linen in the films, thats just me though.

Amazing work!

You have captured the evil very well. I agree about the cowl, though. It seems to be too soft. 4 *'s, at the very least.

Thanks for the critiques guys, your right the cloth does feel a little light. Is there anyway to resubmit a version of the image and have it update in the gallery, or is it locked there forever?

Yes,
I rendered a depth pass then adjusted its levels, inverted it, and used it as a layer mask for a blur'd version of the image.

There is some more detail about how i did the final photoshop composite on the luxology forums here.

and also the work in progress of the texturing here and rendering here if anyone is interested.
