Hi.

Here's my first project in Lightwave, and 2nd character. Had the idea to try create my dnd character in 3D, and since I am learning Lightwave I figured it'd be a cool challenge.:D

He's taken about 3 weeks on and off, modelled using subpatches, textures painted in photoshop.

Thanks to everyone who posted comments in the WIP thread, and particular thanks to leigh who went out of her way to help with UV mapping. I know the map is not perfect but I learned a heck of a lot in creating him, hopefully my next character will be better!

I hope these links work, have had probs in the past with people getting red X's, please let me know if the images don't show for you and I will make another plan.

And another:

Edit: Uploaded the images to a work server, should be viewable now

Comments welcome, please point out any problems/stuff you think could use work....I'm calling him complete, but will take comments etc to the next project.

hey, this is really quite good!!!

the only thing i would change, would be to make that bulging throat part a little less... other than that... great work!

edit:

how did you do the hair? is it a plugin, because it doesnt look like only a bumpmap...

Thanks for the reply and the nice comments :)

The hair was done with saslite. My first try at using a hair plugin, worked out quite well.....was fun to give him bushy, unruly eyebrows as opposed to the manicured look :)

Wicked! Awesome, I like how his neck between chin area is short, adds to the character.

How long did it take you to learn how to do this? From the start (as in learning how to use Lightwave and Photoshop)?

Thanks turbonium :)

I've been using photoshop for quite a while now, I'm a web designer so PS is the weapon of choice for 90% of the work I do.

As for Lightwave, been using a borrowed copy for about a month and a half now. Have been using Max up till now, playing with 3D on a semi-serious basis for about 2 years.

I'm liking lightwave very much though, and this project has only skimmed the surface.

Thanks Santiago, glad you approve :)

Yup I'm seriously considering buying a copy of LW, need to start saving, or persuade the company to ditch max...but as mentioned before, this has purely been a spare-time project, and my friend is going to want his copy of LW back at some stage!

Thanks eMysfit.

I might just start working on the rest of him...a number of people have said they want to see more than just a disembodied head :)
