Hi Guys,

does Max 5 come with Menta Ray - or do I have to buy it? I know there is a free version for Maya (Menta Ray 1.5) - is there a free version for Max 5?

No, mental ray dosen't come with max 5. You have to buy it seperate and cost like $2000 too. Max 5 has pretty good GI built into it, and can do a lot, but If you were wanting to buy a renderer for max, defenitly go for Brazil then.

Oh yeah. It does photon mapping caustics which are a lot faster than doing it normally. Heres the website for Brazil. www.splutterfish.com

Yeah, if you are going to buy a renderer for max, Brazil is probably the best bet. From what I've read, MentaL Ray is supposed to be a little more complex as far as learning, it's not just a push the button renderer, it requires some effort to produce good results. From my experiences with the brazil betas, I would say the retail version must be amazing, not nearly as hard to figure out as MR I would imagine.

brazil is very simple for a renderer..while can be a bit difficult at first..becomes easier pretty quickly..and produces wonderful stuff even if you ony know a little about setting up a scene..but if you know more about setting things up and tweaking parameters..then obviously it looks even better

dont forget vray and final render, both are equally as good as brazil.
