Hi,

I´ve done some presets for the hdri´s from debvec.
Hope someone can use this.
Here is the link:
http://www.schoemann-unna.de/public/hdri_preset

If anyone use the "extreme hires"-hdri´s from dosch-design, you can download a sample-scene from:
http://www.doschdesign.com/e_infobase/
for these hdri´s.

Sample works with these hires-hdri´s (ca. 6000x3000 Pixel) can you find at:
http://www.schoemann-unna.de/preview/hdri/

At the moment I´m working on a technic to fake a floor in hdri-scenes. Some previews can be found under:
http://www.schoemann-unna.de/public/fake_floor/

Hey, those floor shots are great Hollie! How'd you do that? The Chevy sweet too. Yours?

Mdme Sadie and I have been working on rendering with floors, just curious as to how your doing it? your results are awesome

Hi,

Those look really great! I agree could you please do a small tut on how you do that.

Hi,

@AdamT: Yes the chevy was done by me with c4d 8.1

@All: A tutorial how to fake a floor is in progess. Because of my pour english, audity from renderosity will translate it soon.
Here a short description how I make it:
- use the sample-scene from dosch (add a hdri-map to the spheres)
- place a disc in the scene, where the floor should be
- place the objekt on the floor
- make all objekts, exlude the sphere witch is visible for the cam + refelction, invisible for the renderer
- render the image in the final resolution you want
- make all objects visible
- make a new material with the rendered image in the color-chanel
- map the new material with frontal-mapping on the disc
- set the saturation (radiosity) for this material in the material-manager to 0%
- make a new material, map it by plane on the disc and rotate it, so that it lies on the disc
- use the function "fit to object" in the objekt-manager
- let the texture-tag select
- edit the first material with the rendered image
- put a sla-projector in the alpha-chanel
- edit the projector
- set the projection to "plane"
- use "copy tag" to get the settings of the second material
- use a circle-gradient as the shader
- the color should range from white to black
- delete the second material from the disc

That´s it. You maybe have to make a composite-tag for the disc, so that it don´t cast shadows. I deactivate the "generate radiosity" for the disc and the other objects. That´s faster and look also good. The rest is testing ;-)

brilliant!
i have been using a circular gradient on a plane to put objects on the 'floor'
of HDRI scenes, but that camera mapping trick really takes the cake!

thanks!

Not one of those pictures has HDRI Radiosity.

For sure.

All those maps used for those images are the typical Tiff files that everybody has been using by mistake.

Can I post pictures here? Maybe I can show you!

 Pretty sure of yourself...

The reflections are clearly of HDRI images, so why would Holle use HDRI for the reflections, but not for the radiosity?

Yes you can post pictures here, though they have to be very small in terms of file size. You can also embed links to images hosted on your own web space, like this:

Pretty damn sure of myself! seeing as I'm one of the best cinema users out there.

My point, when you learn to read numb nuts.
The TIF images don't apply accurate HDRI to your scene.
Only the HDR files can do that due to the level or accurate light contained in the file.

All those old Tuts are outdated. Because of 8.1 realease.

The image looks right. Realistic, because you're simulating real light.

ARE WRONG! I'm serious.

They basically have radiosity. But not HDRI.

When this site is back up, you can see my point.

Oh look, we have a Dan of our own!!!!

@ sanfranguy:

This is supposed to be a place where people help each other. If you think you're better than everyone and everybody else is stupid you might be in the wrong forum.
Besides, 4 posts in a row and not knowing how to post an image might mean that you're too pissed off to think.

I (and probably the rest of us) would be glad to learn more about this subject and i'm also interested in learning your point of view.
Now, if you could keep the offense level down and the teaching level up, this could turn into a very useful thread.

Thanks!

I apologize.

But I am tired of seeing all this stuff online.

I'll keep the anger level to a low level and maybe I can actually prove to be a positive influenece on the forum. My Bad!

sanfranguy: cool info...thanks for sharing info very useful. i guess you've been told off its not a competition on here...we do understand your frustration...and want to see excellent results.

"Numb nuts". Nice.

I'm well aware of what HDR is, and how tif files are inadequate to the task of creating realistic light.

If you had bothered to look at Holle's presets, you would see that they _are_ referencing HDR files. Not a TIF to be found. And the luminance values are set to 100%.

The Dosch preset also references HDR files (that are not included for obvious reasons, its what they want you to buy).

I'm having trouble understanding your contention. Are you saying those files are using HDRs that actually have no extended dynamic range (a possibility, since you can create HDRs that have as limited a dynamic range as standard 24-48 bit images).

There lots of people on this forum who could learn from you, and some who may even know more than you about HDRI and C4D (I know that may sound like crazy talk to you). If tempers remain under control, we could even have a constructive dialog...
