'The 2.45 is a bugfix release, to stabilize the 2.4x series. No new features have been added, but serious effort has been put in tracking bugs and fixing them. Some performance issues have also been addressed.

Blenders FBX support and DXF import have been drastically improved, also Collada export has had some improvement.

'Essential Blender' has also been released since 2.44 and is a great learning resource for Blender, also the funds go to further the development of Blender so it is really worthwhile

Lastly, you might want to check out project Peach http://peach.blender.org/, which is the latest project that has been initiated by the Blender Foundation. Some of the development goals for Peach include better hair/fur tools and hair rendering, and tools for plants forests, and landscapes.

Good news. And if I understand correctly, a future release of Blender will include BMesh with support for NGONS? I am right? I cant find a video demonstration about BMesh. :( If somebody know one, please share.

Although its not top of my list, its always nice to see Blender so frequently updated.

Oh, can anyone tell me if Blender can save Targa output files in UN-compressed format?

one format available under render settings is 'targa:raw' so presumably yes.

Nice!

just need some customization for keyboard shortcuts and a little improvement on the viewport's fps and I'm definitely in.

I love what this guys are doing with this program.
congrats!

Wasn't Blender supposed to get a major UI overhaul at some point? The current release looks just like the last few I've looked at.

This is a bug fix only release as noted in the annoucement. We hope to have the UI overhaul and in particular the customizable bindings available with the next major release.

That's 2.5 this is just an interim release to fix some bugs. Besides 2.5's UI probably won't be drastically different but it will be different. The main thing is customization which is important, imo.

Sergio: 2.5 is definitely the releast to look forward to then- it will have customizable hotkeys, and numerous interface improvements (in addition to cool new features). I'm not sure if the developers are planning any interim releases after 2.45, which is just a bugfix release from 2.45, and doesn't have many (any?) new features

Great news. That's what many people that view this thread wanted to hear.
