The character is Faeren, you can learn more about him here (http://meadowhaven.net/php-bin/textdisp.php?module=Contest.txt)

yay new picture ^_^ love the lighting so far, but the face looks better in the sketch in my opinion; the eyes seem too far apart now though it might just be me

Thank you very much :) I had thought about making them closer too ^^ It's much better indeed :)

Very beautiful work.

I think it's coming along nicely. Each refinement is exponentially better than the last.

I don't think you have much more to go now.

Well done.

Ehi ehi ehi I was right to loose a beautiful piece of art !

I love the way you painted his face. The single thing I can "suggest" you from my personal point of view is to tune down a little the "light" on his left eye cause it should be placed in the shadow and looking at the light's main source it should not have a so brilliant reflex over its surface.

Hi

Beautiful work as always.

But you know, there is something special about that original sketch that was somehow lost in the painting, I think. I think he looked a bit older and more serene, ?noble? Now he kind of looks very young and perplexed, perhaps a bit startled as the eyes seem a bit too wide open, and looking down at a very sharp angle. If he was not surprised, I'd have expected him to tilt his head down to see the squirrel instead of just his eyes. Of course, that might be just the effect you are going for :) .

Thank you very much for your feedback :)

I've been away for some days so I've not had time to work a lot on this picture but since I have to finish it within 2 days, I'll post lots of updates :)

I've fixed the lighting on the eye :)

The fact that he looks younger than in the first sketch is intended, I'm trying to stay as close as possible to the original character (he belongs to Adele, he's not a character of mine so I can't really make him look old and wild ^^). I also wanted to make him look kinda stiff since he's still inside of the tree (he actually is metamorphosing)

I think he looks great. I was thinking about participating to that contest too, but I only found out about it like a week ago or something..so, we'll see if I make it in time.

Anyways..
He is looking like he is waking up, and the first thing he sees is the Snoots (she looks great btw), isn't that cute, aww. I think this one is the best one and the most daring one of the entries I've seen so far. Good luck to you in the contest!

That is a good painting so far, though i dont see too much progress in the last few shots.

I don't really like the moss ( ? ) on his face, ruins the way he looks a bit.

Very nice squirrel/rabbit though, this can be a very nice scene if you get to finish it! good luck!

Thank you very much for your feedback :)

About the moss on his face : it's still not very well integrated, I'm gonna add more to make it look better ;)

I've now decided that I want to give it an "after the rain" atmosphere, adding waterdrops (he's getting out of the tree after the rain, kinda "growing" like a plant ^^)

Some closeups

My god, Diane! Just when I thought you couldn't possibly add anymore detail, you throw in waterdrops! And that spiderweb! How I wish I had that much patience...
I also see you've changed the ear -- it does look so much better! And that squirrel bunny is adorable! I want one as a pet:)

Also, I have a question -- since you include so many astounding details in pretty much all your paintings, what canvas size do you usually use?

Dianae

Thank you so much :)

This painting is 5200 x 3900 px approx, 300 dpi. I love to put details everywhere :D

It's again an another great moment of creation...

...When I saw the progress of your realization, that seem always very easy... and that works !

Fresh and magic, it's a real dream to discover this picture... the quality is at the originality level...
...the dream come true

Thank you so much Christine, Amy and Laurent! :)

...how many hours of work to arrive to this result ?

Dianae

A little bit less than 50 hours, I would say about 45/48 hours :)

The finished product is far superior to what I was hoping to see! Absolutely beautiful! I saved it to my "favorites" folder in the "WOW factor" sub-folder! This is a 'WOW' picture, indeed! I bow to your talent, and thank you for being willing to share it with the rest of us. Now, I am going to peek at your WIP of "Am I Beautiful?".
