Hi everyone!
A little too late to join in? hope not! I wrongfully entered the forum "animation", but after a while, I realised that I had to submit both, instead of either, still image and animation there! Then after contacting the FAQ thread, (Thanks Mibus!), I was allowed to reenter the right forum, here!
There are so many fantastic and very inspirational threads in this forum, I always watch!
Really a joy to be here amongst you, talented CGtalkers!
So I will make a few rapid posts and bring all my images over here, sorry about the flooding
for a couple of days!

:)

The concopt is about a whale, which gets stranded upon an Island, waiting for the next tide, which might put it back to the sea, but then it gets spotted by the people leaving on that Island!
Instead of helping him back to water, they throw a party and ...

Hi Varma and WOW now for the first time i saw the whale in environment and it looks really wonderfull, very dark/north stylish! And almost Biblical! The posing of the characters continues to impress me - some of it is so real it's spooky

varma
09-25-2007, 02:21 PM
Gunilla; Thanks G, I'm really glad you liked the work so far! Renate was my favorite
character too, because she is so sensitive and unselfish!
The biggest render I can run without crash is 2700 by 1800, even at that size
characters are hardly bigger than already posted, but of course they were supposed
to be a small part of a bigger happening, not the main attraction, although I could
render separate scenes with them later on, like render region, and a few turntables!
:deal:

mac; Ola amigo! I'm rendering the scene in full resolution now, which takes very long
time for every render, about 6 minutes, and then making changes and render again,
trying to make it all hang together, with some changes in colors and lighting! My
primary goal is to get a descent lighting, will post very soon, promise!
Be well, man
:)

Mark; Thansk a lot, mate! All women and child characters so far has been modelled
based on true persons, with some small modifications! I think this has helped me a bit
in getting the personalities reasonably right, or at least I hope!
cheers!

Hi Mathias,

Looks like a nice concept! It's really the biggest strangeness of human beings: kill and eat instead of help... They do it pretty often against each other too, you know, well, not literally...

Very good modeling you show here! Some good poses too. I wonder to see how the whole composition will look!

varma

Hei ICHOMA;
Often times, a visual presentation, or audio for that matter, will include hints or hidden messages, not quite obvious at first glanse, sometimes even unreadable without an attached description or a title! I was under the impression, and hoping, that mine was easy to read, judging from the "strange" behavior of characters involved! Apparently I was wrong!
But you should know that this image was not intended to ba a fun image at all, quite the opposite! Without going political with this, I would dare to say that this was a piece of imagery to actually condemn certain behavior! I leave the rest to you, reading between the lines and getting my point!
The comments you may read here, and the replies to them, are only based on the technical aspect of the workflow involved, like meshes, texturing, lighting and so on! I'm sure no one likes to see any animal or a living organism being hurt or injured!
If you still feel uncomfortable about this, please let me know, then I can post you a mail or PM to discuss this matter some more, or there are specific forums here at CGSosiety, like "CG general disscussion", where it's more appropriate to debate on such stuff!
Thanks!
:)

musi
09-28-2007, 09:22 AM
MAURICIO, permit me to defend Mathias here.
I don't think that any strange behavior is funny, some behaviours are very ugly and rude and yet very strange in their ugliness... Nowhere in the description of the challenge stays that it should be funny, so Mathias is not breaking any rules by selecting one of those ugly strange behaviours for his illustration.
I actually guess he does it to pull attention to those kind of things, not to laugh at them...

And I agree with you on one point: this is not funny at all.

mdavid
10-02-2007, 01:11 AM
I can understand how this might not at first appear to be 'strange behavior' but after following this one from the beginning I'm another one who's fully satisfied that it meets the definition beautifully. As I understand it, there is the killing of the whale, but there is also the dancing and other social/ritual things going on around the whale, which I've interpreted as being a major part of this scene. If I was watching all this happening in real life I am sure I would find a lot of what is going on very strange indeed. The characters in the scene are themselves a bit strange and seemingly very much affected by the harsh world they occupy. I'm enjoying watching this work progress

Hi Mat!

Great stonecutter!!! Excelent pose! And lovely axe...

Of course this isn't a cool thing (the killing of whales) but let's summ this up:

- first and foremost, as Varma said, I'm here to discuss meshes, lights, textures and so on...
- second, if I read the story correctly, the whale come ashore. They ight even tried to help her out but being so poor and needy maybe they were unable to do it. If so... would you starve or eat it? Maybe thank the gods that they sent you a huge meal that would help your entire village. And saying thanks to the whale for allowing them to live.
It's not a crime to kill to survive. We are all brothers and sisters even to the animals and all make part of a chain. Think of this... And say thanks the next time you kill or eat something... the animal died for you to live, has you will do one day...

- Third... sorry if this is to heavy but... sometimes we like to think that we are really civilized and all... but it very easy to break that tarnish... we should be in contact and in peace with the earth...

AND LET'S TALK POLYS AND CG MAN!!! Keep up Mat you're doing great!!!
