I'm new to render layers. I know how to set up the presets but I need help fine tuning how to set up a diffuse, spec, and shadow map. When I render out seperate layers and composite them they don't look the same as when I just render the master layer.

I set up a test file and rendered out some test images. In the images I've attached you can see that the composite image doesn't match the masterLayer. Shadow color doesn't match. And there's no reflected color. How do I fix this?

I feel like there is something I'm missing when I set up the render layers. Thanks!

Are you using mental ray? Cause from what i understand, mental ray's calculations involve many of the things seperated by layers so it comes out differently. So really you do different passes to manipulate certain calculations. Like an ambient occlusion pass.

I may be wrong but this is how i came to understand it.
