View Full Version : ZB and Max UV mapping Problem

Created a base mesh in 3d max 9 exported it to zb2 to refine shape and sub divide for normal map.Normally i would drop back down to level 1 and export (with Obj,Txr,Qud,Mrg checked) back to max to unwrap before finally bringing it back to zb with these Export Obj settings so i can create normal map.
Group and material-group by Object
Geometry-rotate model
Faces-Quads
Texture cordinates
normals
smooth groups
vertex scale 1
file-# of digits 12

This works for me.However with this model because i saved the model in zb at sub div level zbrush would crash when i go to load tool.Lesson learnt that you should always save at lowest level.
I recently got Zb3.1 and it loaded fine in there,so under advice i exported it as an Obj and imported it to zb2.I then hit the reconstruct subdiv button until it reached level 1.I saved it as a tool and exported to max to unwrap.When i try to import from max and go up the sub div levels the tool goes all screwed.
I am at my wits end can anyone offer some help advice.
I spent a lot of time on this baby .

Does your model have any ngons? if so you will have a problem importing to max and exporting back out, as max will automatically reorder ngon verts. If you have access to maya I would suggest importing it into it, as maya will not re order your vert count no matter what.

Also be sure that you are exporting as an editable poly. but that probably wont make much difference if you have ngons.
