The concept changed a bit from the original however, I do like the way this
one came out. The Final entry is based on the movie Gettysburg. I used Particle
Dynamics (sprites) for the two kinds of smoke. To rendered this out using
Maya Software Render and hardware render buffer. I am in the middle of graduation so I didn't really put
much effort on the lighting nor texturing however, I am glad that I was able to participate on this one. I composited the smoke with the cannons and the background in AF.

Amazing work guys! These look very well done.
@Paul Jewel - Nicely done. I like the feel and style.
@Bortnichenko Dmitry - Couldn't get it to download. Send me an e-mail with the video attached as a ZIP file, and I will post a mirror link for you.
@HappyCalaveras - Looks a little ghostly and heavy. Good effort.
@tauism - Nice simulation. I think if your going to do slow motion, then it has to be bang on perfect. It was a little off for me.
@Donovan Rens - Over all excellent production. The style, and feeling of completeness is great. The impact on the castle at the end looks amazing.
@Rodney Costa - Really good simulation. One of the better canon fires of the contest I've seen so far.
@Kogden - Good simulation.
@Gaetano Consiglio - Good style and motion, but the canon fire looks like it would miss it's target.
@Tom Miller - Wow! I loved this one. Great style, music, sound effects, and over all feeling. The canon fire simulation just wasn't winning level, but I'd put you in second place.
Congrats to everyone!
BEST SIMULATION: Donovan Rens
For me the best simulation is : Donovan Rens (Anesthaesia) .

It's very good to see those kinds of entries in here :) Perfect guys, congrats to everyone who did those animations... (I hope I'll be able to join next one)
But at the end, to be honest, not one but three candidates take my vote here and guys I'm sorry I cant decide who is the best:
Donovan Rens, Gaetano Consiglio, Tom Miller
Those three are the best of those movies!!! I'm really sorry about being confused about that but it's a truth that I cant decide!!!
Anyway, again congrats to everyone...

I would like to vote for Tom Miller
The reason for this is that as well as being a great shot, he also successfully fulfilled the challenge requirements.
I would also like to add a reply to targus's comment - I have seen people create very poor quality work using the most expensive tools and plug-ins (just see YouTube), and some amazing work using nothing but the standard tools available in a product. It's all about what you do with them, and doing a bit of research on what you are trying to achieve. While having them does help, they don't necessarily guarantee that the work will be of the highest possible quality.
Anyway, thanks for all the comments and votes guys.
Cheers,
D

I vote for Donovan Rens.
I enjoy my entry, and think I did fairly well on it, but I let the true purpose of the challenge get out of my hands and rather than focus on that true simulation of the cannon fire, i opted for more pzazz on the rest of the entry. Donovan kept the challenge rules in sight and did very well on it.

Congratulations to all, it's been difficult to choose the best out of you and it was really fun to see them all.
There is much to take in consideration, but overall what giv3s more impact is Donovan Rens - Anesthaesia.
Second place I loved Gaetano Consiglio. Very fast shot as it should be and the smoke dissipating in the strong wind is great, I think. The sound also helped!
As for simulation, Bortnichenko Dmitry (Targus) is very good.

My vote for best simulation is Donovan Rens (Anesthaesia) - excellent work on simulating multiple cannons, and the volumetric explosion for the impact looked really good as well.
I only had time to work on the smoke itself, but props to everyone who was able to put in textures, environments, and even sound effects and music - great work!
I vote 4 Bortnichenko Dmitry (Targus).
I especially liked the dust cloud beneath the cannon. Nice touch.
