This picture is usually 3200 pixel wide. We have been used shadowmaps only, the rendering therfore was only 10 min long. (Dual 1800)
Its just a testrendering to see the how the model surfaces are reacting in this kind of lighting. This model has everything a real Williams FW25 also has: A highly detailed Engine, clutch, gearbox, brakes, seat, full functional steering wheel, suspension and 2 different drivers and much more. Ralph Schumacher and J.P. Montoya are the drivers in this season.

In this picture you see Montoya (Rank No. 3) posing in our big basement hall :) http://digimice.com/Galerie/newsbilder/Montoya_small.jpg

A bigger version of this picture you will find here:Montoya_big (http://digimice.com/Galerie/newsbilder/Montoya_big.jpg)

See the result of this light test here: History Carpark - Quicktime Movie (http://www.digimice.com/Galerie/videos/insideformula/History_Carpark.mov)

After all I changed some details:

looks really cool, maybe up the gloss on the car (more shiney) and make the tires more bumpy (more intense bump/displacement map). But the modeling looks superb!

Keep up the sweetly awesome work, Cheers!

since im a racing freak the only probelm is that the cockpit is to short, length wise(that could be just the angle though) and the helmet looking right is a bit strange.

Excellent model! The only thing that confuses me are the light spots on the tires. They look... cloudy. I never saw a f1-tire in reality, though

Awesome model but I think the wheels look too thick or bulky, too rounded on the outside.

thats one sweet formula car:) nice job on the paint too.

I might agree about the tires' outer walls being a bit too rounded. And although the tread of the tires should be soft and treadless, I might have expected a *bit* more of a rough, sticky appearance. They look a bit too smooth right now.

Bah, but this is really nitpicking... its a great model! What program is this and could we see a wire? Please, post more rendered angles too

Great Work!!! Great Work!!

I'm doing something similar for the 2003 F1 Blender Contest http://www.seesystems.com/f1/
and I know how dificult it is !!! In the process of modeling mine I have became very familiar with the tinny details of F1 cars, it is amazing the amount of stuff that you just don't notice.

You even got the right number of rings on the tire!! (Williams is using a 4 rings tire while the others makers are using a 5 rings version). And for all those who asked, yes, that is the way a F1 wheel should look.. although yours certanly have a cloudy appearance.

The only thing that your car is lacking are the creases in the car body (where the different parts come together), for instance, where is the fuel cap?

** Edit: Jaguar is also using the same tire for it's new R4, so they are the two cars with 4 rings tires.

You can see the real BMW/Williams here http://www.bmw.williamsf1.com/ click on images, and then select 2003 launch from the drop-down list.

Wow ,nice modelling.

You are right Apollux,

the fuel cap is missing on the model. Also the fire extinguisher knob. We are using different detailed version for our animations. So also we have a body which has all the details a real Williams FW25 fuel cap also has. Maybe I should paint a fuel cap bumpmap for this model, good idea ! I will... All other creases are existing. But in this picture they are outshined, except an the nose and under the B of BMW.
I will post some more pictures very soon, but if you like to see a very, very, very big and detailed picture right now click this link :Poster FW25 6000x2500 pixels 17 MB (http://www.digimice.com/Galerie/insideformula/FW25PosterWZ.zip)

I thank everybody here for your critics and commentaries !!

See, this was the steering wheel last year...

Dammm... the steering wheel for this year is super cool with the telemetry screen and all that... it is a shame the FIA banned telemetry :annoyed: Since the upcomming Silverstone, all steering wheels are falling back to the same old model!

I don't like the steering wheel rendeirngs, the bmw logo looks very reflective, to much reflection for my taste.

Also the buttons look strange, the surface :hmm:

I can see some polys (on the s-wheel) in the second rendering.

But yeah, I don't know how high is the budget nor I know how much time U had!

Hi Daniel,

the renderings of the steering wheels are just test renderings and they just should show the level of detail.
Of course the HDRI reflection doesn´t fit in a black background, but they do when the steering wheels is the car on the track and raytracing is activated.
The whole BMW Logo on a FW Formula 1 car is in acrylic glass.

But you are also right with the budget, its never enough.
We have usually 10 days to built a whole real looking racetrack in every detail. This week we built Brazil. Then we may model a clutch with a gearbox and an engine, and it should be all real geometric Formula 1 parts.
Or we built 12 different older racecars (see anims) Also we have to do all the research by ourselfs and then we draw all storyboards. Then we animate everything.
Allmost no layer rendering and post production is possible in this short time. Because we produce and render in this 10 days 90-135 seconds in PAL resolution. 4 People work for all Williams Formula 1 animations. Everyone is a 3Dholic here :applause:

Are the Anims for EuroSport or DSF?
DSF, coz I seen DSF is using the Anims from the "Inside Formula" series.

Was all the work on your site refering to this project done in 10 days????? If so, you've done a magnificent job indeed. I hope you watched the Grand Prix as a 'reward' :)

digimice

All the work on our website refering to the "Inside Formula" project is a collection from different episodes. We produce dozens of "Inside Formula" episodes every year. But these animations are mostly shown on TV not in connection with the "Inside Formula" magazin. A couple of times in a week our animations are seen on CNN, RTL, PRO7, SAT1, ORF, Eurosport, DSF a.o.

To build all the models we just use regular pictures we get from Williams F1 bevore the bolide is publicised. You will never get a good blueprint from a current F1 car.

Everybody here is watching the Grand Prix, we are all F1 freaks !!!

As long as we're talking about F1, Brazil race was a DISASTER for most teams. Am Happy For McLaren/Mercedes.
