View Full Version : Mudbox->Zbrush->3dapp?
MasonDoran 09-15-2007, 08:48 AM I created some stuff in Mudbox and took it into Zbrush for polishing because Zbrush can handle much higher poly counts.
Now I want to extract normals and cavity maps. Anyone know how to do this using 2 seperate models -one low, and one hi?
Zmapper cannot load models that are 500k+ and I dont see any other technique with Zbrush to do so.
Zbrush has so many cool features that are not fully thought through it seems, and this seems to be one of them.

Zbrush cannot do sample seperate meshes as far as I know, if it would be possible, i would be glad to know.
You could actually use Nvidia Melody for that, just google for it. But cant mudbox do that? As far as I know there was some feature in the early beta that allowed you to to load external meshes fo rsampling, but it wasnt working properly, havent tried the full version of it myself.
If you would want to do it the tricky way, you could use the "topology"-feature in zbrush to make on tool out of two. Basicly load the highres from MB, choose to re-topo it, and load the lowres in from MB aswell. Once you have them both in one tool, you could sample all you wish with zmapper. http://www.zbrush.info/docs/index.php/Topology

mudbox can actually do this very well....
I just want to create cavity maps.
I read up on the topolisation feature....looks effective enough. It is quite a serious work around if you consider subtools.
thanx a lot!
