View Full Version : Question: Script speed?

I have a question regarding Painters script function:

I haven't used it very often yet. Today I wanted to 'record' a painting and after finishing the whole thing to play it. When I start playing it shows the whole process very fast and now I wonder how I can slow the replay? Is this possible?

Thanks for all help!

Chris

There are a few work arounds to achieve this.
First, go into the script option settings, and type in "record every 1/10ths of a second".
This will make the recording more accurate.
Now, if you just want to playback without recording a movie file, just choose a big canvas, and difficult to render brushes.. lol.
This will slow down playback as the system will need more time to calculate each stroke.
If, like me, you want a movie out of the proccess of your drawing, you should click the "Save frames on playback".
When you press the play button, Painter will ask you to save a framestack, which you will then export to a movie file.
The combination of the frame rate along with the parameters mentioned above (canvas size and "brush render difficulty")will determine the smoothness, flow or speed of the movie file playback. Note that more fps in the output will increase flow, but shorten the movie playcount as, the frames are predetermined. So if you want a slower speed albeit choppy in some cases, choose a low fps, which will lengthen the movie.
Hope it helps.

Thank you for your help but I get an error message when trying to use the save framestack option:

"Script entries that create new images are not allowed with Save Frames on Playback active - aborted"

:(

Although not a solution to your problem have you tried CamStudio to record your work? Much better in my opinion than Metacreations solution which Corel hasn't bothered to update in Painter.

I also like to use Opencanvas 1.1 for playing back my work very little cool program.

If you want to create a movie out of your painting session, there are a few steps you got to follow, which I believe can be found on the Painter manual/ help..

First you create your canvas.
Then you press the record button on the script palette.
After finishing your painting,
first you press the stop button and save the script,
and then do you save your painting.
If you want to use a script for a movie where you have accidentally recorded the save file command you can always open that script and edit its last commands, so you can delete the save file commandto make it compatiple for a movie.
It is a pain to edit scripts, and as mentioned this feature hasn't evolved for at least 7 or so years...

OC is a pretty good alternative!
