This is a preview of a robot i'm building. It is very close to being done modeling... More details will come from the texture... Yet to come. Please critique before I start unwraping this SOB....

hey, I like that! but where are his hands? Are they guns or something? I can't wait for a textured version! The only crit i have is that his head/neck are a bit small....but maybe that's what you were going for? Anyhow, it looks pretty cool!:applause:

I like him, looks really tough and beefy, the small head helps that out. But ya the missing hands look a bit strange, if theres going to be guns there at least make them bigger

Thanx guys,

Those are not guns, there will be hands, and there will be rather large rocket launchers on his shoulders.. I'll have another wip image up soon.

Ok, here's an update, I'm going to begin unwrapping this sob soon. I'll keep posting in here every once in a while. Last call for critiques before I begin working again. Thanks..

i like the top half of this robot very much, however something about the legs bothers me.
They seem too fat for the rest of the body, the width seems more off than the depth and the knee join seems very strange because of this.
i am extremely impressed with the model and design and i can't wait to see it textured, it will look fantastic.

keep it up :)
(the lighting used in the previews makes the details really show up, something thats often overlooked, i like it)

Thanks guys...

This is a project we're doing for a graduate class... We're going to use this character for a motion capture study... We don't have a whole lot of time to screw around with skinning an organic character, so I opted to use a robot. We're going to texture this bad boy, but its going to be a slow process.. I have other classes and a job to worry bout also.. this kindof gets put on the back burner a lot. This is the first of 2 characters...

I dig the head.

Most of the body looks good, but I'd agree about the legs.

Also, now, this is a CG snob thing and has little bearing on the overal look of the character, but those molded abdominal protrusions look very...um...meshsmoothy...hehe.

Looks pretty cool overall. Perhaps rotating the hands 90 degrees would help him/it look a bit more human.

Keep at it, it's look'n cool.

Well, since you guys mentioned something about the girth of the limbs, I realized that they might not have a full range of motion. This is just a test to find out how much he can move.. I guess the range is full enough. I don't have time to rehash the legs, I aggree that they look kindof funny... I am supposed to be unwrapping this right now. But i only have a few hours to sleep before I get up again and start the day over. Good enough for me. The lighting is 3 main source lights, with a few week ambient lights spread out to fake some radiosity.. We wanted to use Brazil to do the lighting, but we soon realized each frame would take hours, and we have to have a completed final of around 12-20 seconds.. Don't have nuff machines to make network rendering worth while... So... this scene takes about 20 seconds to render and even looks pretty decent.

I like that red light coming up from the bottom. Nice effect.

I like what you are doing with this model. The only thing that jumped out at me was the missiles. Everything else is really detailed and the missile is quite plain. Are you planning to add detail to it? (Fins, decals, whatever) Or will the missile be left as is? Anyway, love the head, reminds me of paintball mask. :D I like the launchers a lot too. Keep up the good work!
