With all due respect to geekatplay ! you guys are "$%@#-ing" Awsome

I really like the tutorials,But if you guys would ever put out a complete dvd (Downloadable) training course ..I got my money ready !

Not a training dvd about how to use the tools in vue (AsileFX already has that) but what he doesn't have is actual training that you can use right in your video/film production. Come on, let's face it, everyone who bought Vue want to create the ILM/E-on sotware demo reel type stuff. Again i said types of stuff (I know that it take alot of talent and work)

And sofar no one has an indepth video on how to create reaslistic big/massive "looking" matte paiting like terrain or landscapes (snow ect..) not real matte paiting guys relax I just mean to invoke the feel and awe of those digital paintings, like we saw in e-on's illusive to create demo reel :-) and also a moon looking terrain ect...

And last is there any other option to purchase items from geekatplay other then the google payment method ? I already have a paypal account and I don't know google's reputation as far as credit and bank account info. I really wanted to get your Megapack but I don't want to use Google ..thanks.

p.s: this is the types of feel and inspiration that I want to try to achieve in Vue (again guys I don't mean an exact replica) but just the mood and feel hope you get my point.

On the last image below, how can you get rocks or a sphere to look like that ?

All images taken from here :http://www.mattepainting.org/index.php?categoryid=13&p16_sectionid=2

Thank you!
Those images are awesome.
There are a couple of problems, iwhich is why we always need help.

The tutorials are done by me in my free time and need to be translated from my broken english to something more understandable. My writer wife who is doing the transcribing had _0_ knowlege of Vue at the beginning, so I basically started with simple things so I didn't have to sit by and help her ;) (She is even editing this one, because sometimes I like to be clearer.) Now she wants to kick me off my computer and do something herself with Vue.

I recently finished some terrain creations for a video game, (no more info under NDA.) But as soon they let me I will post the stuff from there. We used a massive terrain with high details and a very realistic look. We hope we can make some tutorials based on that.

I'm working on a more complicated tutorial next week. It was about an hour long on materials layers, echosystem, etc. But I needed to cut it short due to time restrictions.

Good work takes time. Just to create one terrain set for the game took me 3 weeks full time for a perfect realistic look (in HD resolution).

To keep cost down we've been using google for no subcharge, but paypal will be available soon.

Many people have asked for a DVD of these. We will have one out after 30th tutorial, for cost of making and shipping. All of the models, packs, etc will be on it as well. And this will be downloadable.

My goal in creating these tutorials is not to compete with any one, or for glory and fame (but i don't mind last one :) ) I think Vue is a powerful application and I want to bring people who enjoy creating with it togeter.

If you have a tutorial and need a place to host, I will be happy to put it on.
Or if you have an idea for tutorial and want us to create it, with full credit to you for your idea.

Agian, those are excellent images for reference, so lets make some use of them. Thanks for the idea!

HAHAHHA....Wow that so funny ..I'm on your site right now looking at the island foam tutorial !! I like real practical training. I own AsileFx Training also ..like 3 of them I learned alot from his stuff. But man I love the practical stuff that you guys create ...so no thank you !

Malcolm7

Wel your wife english is 100% good.Keep in mind that alot of people on the net and this forum are from all walks of life with our own accent so don't let that bother you !:wise:

As for taking weeks to do a Terrain Wow !! but you know what if you make a kick ass training DVD even on this one terrain,I'll buy it !!

I love vue6 since it turned grey/black you are correct it is a great program.. but I have to be honest, : Camera positions/scale/size of objects.. really kicked my but. When I wanted to create a mountain with clouds around it I would scale up , but then my sky got all messed up.
It's from your tutorial that I learned about the square on the grid being 10m by 10m ..before that I would just add to the grid in big chunks then my scale/size/perspective would be messed up ?

p.s:get Paypal quick :-)

We want the complicated stuff .. so add them to your site in parts or series or charge for it if it's an hour long .. I'll use goole checkout if you do

People are tursty for real Vue training, not that computer look stuff that we see in some vue gallerys..that's not what we expect out of Vue.
Textures or Materials creation training, if you can, make them. That's a crucial step in making any scene look real !!

But any way take your time but don't take too long  .we all want to create the "types" of environment we saw in e-on's demo. We need people like you to put those training out as if we where getting it from a student teacher settings...I can't wait for the complex stuff, don't cut anything out please, it's that serious for this Vue forum, that'll give it life :scream:

But anyway Keep those training comming.

p.s: how do we create fractured/deformed/chipped looking rocks.. just a tought.

I said enough thanks.

And here's a great digital matte painter, Alp Altiner and what he's done with Vue and Terragen (WIP) really:

And also the brains behind the illusive Vue 6 demo reel "look" Philippe Bouyers (I never saw this before)

Holly --- !! that's it :scream:

those are what people are looking for From Vue 6.

1.How to get the terrain large like that ?
2.How long whas the render of this image ?
3.what's the render quality for this image? Final/Broadcast/Superior ?
4.(Dumb question *Alert*) are these all from one terrain or several difrennt terrains?
4.can you move around this terrain (up down hills) like a real world terrain ?
5.Does Vue 6 Slow down alot when you have so much object and plants in one scene? How do you deal with that. ?

You see, there are lots of questions that needs answered. We need Vue training for production video/film. We are all adults who want to be the next Digital Matte painter/CG ENVIRONMNET CREATORS. Not the silly stuff.

A bigger question I have for you.
How do you handle scales of objects vs terrains ect... ?
How big do you create your terrains on your grid.
And what focal lenght do you use on what kind of scene. Thanks .

geekatplay
10-11-2007, 01:37 AM
1. It is possible to create in one terrain, but for time saving it is multiple terrains, but they combine seamless. This terrain is big, about all grid area in Vue.
2. Image render in Final , (higher will be look better) and it took about 1hour on
Dual CPU, Dual Core AMD 880 (little bit old) PC.
3. Final
4. Multiple pices, for time saving, single terrain = doulbe time
5. yes, you can, i may render animation ... when have free time.
6. No, it is acualy not many objects, custom materials, textures, they are time/poligon savers.
7. I have tutorial comming out (based on your sugetions) show how to create from begining (textures in photoshop) to final image.

Scale by numbers ;) Vue grid = 1 square - 10 meeters. if you hold down shift and stard drag in, it will snap object to 1 meeter marks.
Remember you don't need to create exacly same, you are one who control point of view.

Focal lenght 55mm normal, 35mm wide, varible from that.
here is image from other tutorial already recorded ... need to be translated.
same from custom materials on rocks to final image. Sadly time restrictions in tutorials, normaly you can play around for days to create details and improve look.

Nice Images.

Love the tutes you guys are providing...Keep up the excelent work!

I had a look at your most recent tute where you use greenscreen footage to composite your vue footage. I have some video tutes that are more detailed in the use of KEYLIGHT in Aftereffects to key out greenscreen footage, as well as an ulternative to creating fake shadows, that I thought might come in handy with your viewers.

Heres a link to my tutes.

Vladimir Chopine :applause:. Those are the rocks I'ved been wanting to create !! I think that you understand exactly the look that I had in mind, and the feel that inspired me from Digital Matte painters!!!

Thanks for the tip on the camera focal lenght. I'ved tried setting up scenes using too wide of an angle (19 mm  ) and wasn't getting good results.. but they are better now.

Man That was a great response from you with those images ! Greate work.

Is setting up a paypal account for your site very expensive ? Because I want that Mega pack. Or has anyone used Google checkout services ,how long has it been around?

Bring on that hour long training my time/money/appreciation is waiting :deal: .

these are what I'ved been trying to create with Vue 6, Nothing really, just been trying to learn how to handle and navigate my self in Vue :

Malcolm7

Thank you Guys.
IvanB, I am adding page to site with recomended resources (web links) and yours will be there, you have greate stuff.
We try to make tutorials for Vue, and avoid other apps ;) , but sometimes they overlap.
So our idea to have page with other good tutorials, that have intrest for Vue community.

Don't you whis that this was done with Vue..:-) one day!

Solomon
10-12-2007, 02:58 PM
oh, that can be done with Vue even now

but the cost is render time.

Malcolm7
10-12-2007, 05:29 PM
..really This can be done now ?. Well I feel better now to hear from a pro.:)

Render time I'ved come to expect from anything 3D so if that's all the cost is .. and of course a little time,Then I'm all for learning how to create this level of work.
Bring it on !!

Solomon
10-12-2007, 10:17 PM
Like geekatplay mentioned above

with enough time put into images like that, you can duplicate the look.

Here is a render not exactly similar but close enough, that I did in Vue.

a question about your tutorial:animated layer.

why you use a box after tree.

sorry ,I can not hear English.I just can read and write.

geekatplay
11-11-2007, 01:45 AM
Box used to preform boolean operation on terrain, it is not nessesery at all, but
this is not just a tutorials :) we using regressive repetition system. My own wording.
in previos tutorials we introduced boolean operations on terrains and other objects, one way to help users remember it is repeating what they already learn in different situations.
In that case we set up "memory hook" on animationg terrains, to repeating boolean operations.
You can easy scale terrain to right size.

I just wanted to say thanks for the great tutorials geekatplay! If you ever have a chance would you be able to make a tutorial on how to make a beach landscape like this http://www.3dwallpaper.com/1152/vigil.jpg (more about the shape of the hills and how to make a shore line that doesn't look like a straight line). All of my beach shores look like a straight line, I'd like to add some curves to them.

This looks awesome. I'm so glad to find you and have high hopes you can get me rolling. I was particularly excited that you have some learning-to-walk hand-holding tutorials for beginners.

If I can get something done as a result of these tutorials you can bet I'll buy something or donate.

Anyone know how to successfully import ZBrush hi-polymesh with textures into Vue (any version)? I have not found a single posting anywhere where anyone says they are always successful. And, there are no tutorials that I can find.

Thanks.
