I have a question:

Is a cheap Toshiba laptop,
the Satellite L30, which cost only $399.00 after rebate,

is this capable of running poser7?

i think poser really relies heavily on video card for the display, not sure what this laptop has.

Poser has the option of using hardware acceleration for it's viewport displays, but it also has a software display mode. The hardware mode uses OpenGL.

Just as Lightwave, it has wireframe, hidden line, etc modes that you use depending on your needs and the complexity of the scene.

So basically yes, you can use it in that computer. It won't be as responsive as in a more expensive machine, but isn't that true for any other 3d program?
