I'm looking for a good 3 button mouse. I use all three buttons a lot in the 3d field, and it's important to me that it's a comfortable mouse. I hate it that all the new mice are two button mice with a scroll wheel in between and 10 other little buttons on the mouse here and there. I'm just looking for a good 3 button mouse like the old Logitech Mouseman, but preferably USB. The closest thing I have ever found is the Logitech Wingman Gaming Mouse, which is not in production anymore. It was a USB version of the Logitech Mouseman. I'm not sure why it's called a 'gaming mouse'. Anyways, I'd like to hear everyone's opinion on what mice they use in 3d applications and how well they work and how comfortable they are.

I have a small collection of sgi granite ps2 mice :) They are still my favorite mice to this day. I can always get them cheap off ebay if I need more.

I find the SGI to be great quality but like the standard logitec they are based on, a little small.

I have also found the larger logitec wingman game mice with 3 real buttons to be the best fit and quality. Every once in a while new USB wingman mice come up on Ebay. They come with a ps2 to usb connector. I bought 4 to have on reserve since they stopped making the 3 button wingman game mice.

The old 5d mouse on the previous intous wacom tablets are also decent.

I’m still using the cheapest three button logitech mouse, never had any problems, and I really just need these three buttons, nothing more…

Just wondering if anyone has seen any three button optical mice anywhere from anyone?

looking for one, it would be perfect :)

I believe it does not exist.

The only real 3-button optical mouse I've seen is that weird "vertical" mouse: here (http://www.evoluent.biz/). I own one of those - it's worse than it could be unfortunately. I don't know why nobody manufactures an optical version of the mouseman (http://home.earthlink.net/~dvornik/cgt/mouseman.jpg) or of that other (ambidextrous) Logitech mouse - don't know the model name.

yeah I know dvornik, I've been searching the last couple of days because my three button Logitech mouse is dying a slow death. I've think Sun has one for its workstations but the dpi isnt very good. *sigh* guess its another oem three button mouse for me...:hmm:

Isn't the wheel in the middle of most optical mouse a second button?
Id that's the case then I recomend the optical microsoft intellimouse. I have one and it's great!

Well Fingolfin, I think my prob is that I've been using Maya since beta 1 and I was trained on a SGI Octane. I've become so used to the three button, that I find the scroll wheel to be awkward. Its really a matter of personal preference, I guess most people are using the scroll wheel as a 3rd mouse button and thus are very used to it. I tried a logitech scroll wheel, I really did! but ended up giving it to my sister. So here's hope that one day some manfacture will come up with one. I did however have an idea if any Mice R&D people are listening ;) why not make a three button mouse and put the wheel where the thumb would be, granted then it would be strictly right handed but that might be the "best of both worlds" scenario.

Yea, I have the same problem. I find scroll mice annoying. Which is why I still use old SGI ps2 mice.
