hey

i know how to render in wireframe and all however i see people render in wireframe yet have there object in there so that when they render the wireframe is not see through but so it looks like it has a wireframe on top of that object

how is this done? thanks

There are a couple of methods.

First, one can just render out a "preview" in Max. This will just pretty much take a snapshot of your viewport...not really a render so to speak, but it works for somethings.

Second, you can copy your object, and scale it up ever-so-slightly, then apply a wireframe material to the copy.

You can also accomplish this in post, but it would be difficult to explain here.

Third, you can assign material to the object, make it face mapped, add a gradient ramp map, and set the type to "box". This will make a reasonable approxamation of a shaded wire render, though it does' nt work as well if you have non-square polys.

I'm sure there are other ways, but those are the most common...IMO.

hmm, well

i was thinkin about copying my object and then having one with a wireframe but i thought that wasn't a correct way, oh well thanks for the tips
